duh...

it's called music city for a reason. tonight we got free tickets to a concert...i thought it was just a choir concert (no offense choir people) but it was so much more.

it was the 25th anniversary celebration of michael w. smith with MANY guests including 3 american idol favorites (phil stacy, melinda doolittle and jordin sparks) plus wynonna judd - she was great and definitely owned the stage! ricky skaggs and amy grant....

i was extremely surprised by the music...i felt pretty cool until....this happened.

we had great seats, down front...very cool. after phil stacy sang rob said outloud to his friend sitting next to him, "wow, that was great. makes me wish i would have voted for him on american idol..." ha-ha.

we were sitting DIRECTLY behind phil stacy's wife. duh.

nice.

and for a side note, we ate dinner afterwards (we HAD to, we had a sitter....woo-hoo) and i saw kelly pickler!!! i wanted to jump up and take our picture together to boost my blog rating but i didn't react quickly enough. if you don't jump and take advantage of the moment at the time or recognizing a famous person you immediately drop from fan to "weird person staring at famous person."

I got your blog through a Google alert for Phil Stacey. I would have loved to have been there myself, as I am one of his "Philnatics,":-). I'm sure Kendra has forgiven Rob for not voting for him. Phil is no amateur. He studied vocal performance at Lee University. Idol has not shown all of him, I feel. He has done pretty well since then, with a cd out, having released a patriotic song, "Old Glory," around the July 4th week, because he was getting requests for it after having performed it on tour. The redone version is available on iTunes, but I would recommend you find the youtube video of it, with montage, done by PhilnaticsDotCom . He has been getting standing ovations for it everywhere, including at the Opry Friday just before this tribute to Michael. And he is on the "Country Sings Disney" cd, where he sings "Can You Feel the Love Tonight."

That's one of the things I really miss about Nashville. When you live there, you see all sorts of famous people...many times just doing regular stuff (as if they are too famous to be normal. ha ha).

I've seen Trisha Yearwood at the grocery store, Reba McIntire at Olive Garden, Lori Morgan at her son's baseball game, Vince Gill and Amy Grant at Shelby Park for the Vinny golf clinic, etc. (and each of those times I was the weird person staring at a famous person). Ha ha :o)

And to complete this comment full of "name-dropping" (tee hee)... Phil Stacey's dad is the pastor at my mom's church: Hendersonville Church of God. And his brother is the music minister. Phil, Kendra and their little girls make surprise appearances there from time to time.

(Sanjaya does, too. Isn't that the weirdest thing???)

Just to add to the fact that Phil's dad pastors Hendersonville Church of God: Phil has led in worship there at least once. He took the place of his brother, Keith, when Keith was sick. The church has an account on youtube, where you can see the 3 songs where Phil leads in worship. There are also performances by the choir and from something called "Worship cafe." Pastor Gary posts occasionally on the Phil fan site I belong to, and he said that his daughter-in-law, Amanda,is a barista. So I guess they use the coffeeshop ambiance as an event to also minister in music. Amanda sings in some of those videos, as does Phil's wife, Kendra. Type in " hendersonvillecog " in the window on the youtube site, and it should bring up all the performances they have on there.

I saw BIG BLACK from the MTV show "Rob and Big" at the carwash the other day. I didn't take the picture quick and so I DID became the "weird person staring at the famous person" although I don't really know if he qualifies as "famous"! I did tell him that I loved the show!!

Sounds like fun. I love following all the comments on this blog post. You guys always go to some cool stuff. I remeber when I was the babysitter who sat with the kids for u to go to all those cool things. It seems weird to think I babysit 3 all day everyday of my own now instead of other kids. The only thing is I dont get paid at the end of the day with my own kids. :)
